I am fortunate enought to be on the board of directors for the midsouth chapter of the american liver foundation. Today I attended a benefit dinner in honor of a former patient of mine who received a liver transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. There were close to 200 people there, all of whom knew this guy. One of the most touching events was when the patient's wife saw my boss, Dr. Riely, and me and then started crying because she thought it was so sweet that a "doctor" would be able to make it to support the cause. All I could do was smile and say, "your welcome."
In any case it was my honor to go there, and I hope that his eforts help more people become aware of liver transplantation and the benefits of it.
If you wasnt to know more go to the UNOS website.
